Co-Yo: Vegan Friendly Coconut Milk Yoghurt

CoYo: Coconut Milk Yoghurt
Coconut products are receiving increased attention in the nutrition and fitness world just lately. One of the many reasons for using coconut as an alternative to dairy is that Coconut is one of nature's richest sources of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs). MCFAs are smaller, easily digested and burned by the liver for energy - like carbohydrates, but without the insulin spike. MCFAs actually boost the metabolism and help your body use fat for energy, as opposed to storing it, so it can actually help you become leaner. Additionally MCFAs improve heart health, boost the thyroid and support the immune system.

SLiNK Magazine: Opening the glossy door to a debate on 'Plus Size', 'Real Size' and 'Does it matter what size?'

SLiNK Magazine - Issue 13
Magazines in the western world are filled with air-brushed images of models ranging from sizes 0-6 and stuffed with articles about bikini bodies, juice diets and celebrity celluliteConcerns are growing over the impact this has on women's body image and self esteem especially when in reality,  4.9 million women in the UK wear a size 18+ and the plus size clothing market has grown by 47% since 2006.

Clearly, magazines do not reflect the average woman. Women wearing sizes 10-12, like myself, are classed as 'plus size' by the fashion industry standard, regardless of whether a woman is a healthy weight, in good health, has a balanced diet and a pretty decent level of fitness.

Guest Post: Who Do You Turn To For Support With Healthy Living?

You'll Never Diet Alone! New stats show that over half of us turn to our partner for support when we're on a diet. Sometimes, the hardest thing about being on a diet – apart from cutting out all those things you really love, but you know are really bad for you – is finding the strength to keep doing it!

With temptation waiting for you around every corner, you have to have some pretty potent will power to fight all those cravings. But the good thing is that you’re never really alone, as a recent survey by healthy weight loss and diet tool website discovered.

The Body Book by Cameron Diaz (Book Review)

I usually avoid celebrity books at all costs. Mostly, because they're endorsing a faddy diet or dramatic weight loss (usually down to their personal trainers and chefs and hours in the day for exercise). Cameron's book is however, very different to what I expected.

For one, it contains actual science and nutritional advice. She's clearly carried out research and spoke to people that know their stuff. As with the exercise section, in which she promotes lifting weights (hooray for strong women!). Cameron uses a lot of metaphors to explain the science, which if you're new to it all, are really helpful.

iBitz Monitors: Get the kids active!

The iBitz activity trackers, from GeoPalz and corresponding smartphone Apps are unique in that both parents and children can use them to measure their activity levels. The iBitz Unity is designed for parents and comes in a variety of colours. Syncing to the Unity app via Bluetooth 4.0, it'll tell you calories burned, steps taken, distance and allow for the tracking of weight.

iBitz Powerkeys, designed for children are also available in a range of different colours. As well as tracking their activity, they sync to a child-friendly version of the app which unlocks items in many different games in the App store, including Disney's Club Penguin - the idea being that if a child wants to progress in a game, they have to get active first instead of simply sitting around playing on phones and iPads all day long.

Guest Post: 6 Parts of Food We Shouldn't Scrap

“Don’t waste the best bit”; something many of us recognise from childhood. But are you aware of the parts of fruit and vegetables which we commonly discard but contain huge health benefits? Many fruit and vegetables have skins and leaves which are more colourful than the flesh- a sign that it contains nutritious phytochemicals like carotenoids and flavonoids, and one of the overriding messages at the moment is that we should eat a more colourful diet in order to get a greater variety of antioxidants.

Laurence Beeken, Food Information Executive at, gives us 6 parts of common fruits and vegetables we often discard and ways we can easily include them into our diets.
