Green Power Smoothie - high in vitamins, fibre and protein

Smoothies are a great way to pack loads of fruit and vegetables into your day. They're easy and quick to make and economic in that they can be useful way to use up left over fruit and veg. These days, smoothies no longer consist of simply blended fruit, many contain seeds, ground nuts, spices, honey, yoghurt and protein powders in order to boost the nutritional content of the smoothie.

The recipe below is for a smoothie I like to take to work to get in 4 servings of fruit and veg and plenty of protein and fibre to keep me going inbetween meals.

Eye-Fi Mobi - A wireless memory card that's perfect for sports, travel & weddings!

The Eye-Fi Mobi App in action!
A little disclaimer, this post has nothing to do with health or fitness. I basically just like technology and when I find a gadget that makes some part of my life easier, I want to share it with others. I'm sure I'll be the same in the midst of wedding planning (wedding planner apps!) and when I become a parent (gadgets now exist that can predict when a baby will wake up!). Perhaps this blog will eventually expand to become a more of a lifestyle blog... who knows?!

The Eye-Fi Mobi card has saved me so much time since coming back from holiday last week. It looks just like a regular SD memory card and fits in any digital camera as a replacement for a SD card. What makes it it special is that any pictures taken on the card can be wirelessly transmitted to your smartphone thanks to the card's own built-in WiFi.

This means that there's no longer a need to wait until you to get home to your laptop (or to the nearest WiFi source) to have your camera photos on your phone to share with others.

BRYT Skincare - I've finally found my perfect products!

It's unusual for me to get really excited and hyped up about a skincare range and it's been a long time since I've had an a noticeable effective skincare range. Lately my stress levels combined with hormonal imbalances have played havoc with my skin, leaving it spot prone and a combination of oily and dry. Usually foaming cleansers leave the area around my nose really dry and serums leave my skin feeling sticky but I have finally found a cleanser and serum that compliment my skin type perfectly and leave my skin feeling smooth, clear and really soft.

BRYT skincare is a range of botanical products created for men and women of all ages, but especially for teens and young adults.

The Protein Drinks Co have a great range of UFit protein shakes available in both strawberry and chocolate flavours. The range includes my two favourite shakes - the new 'UFit Breakfast' and 'UFit Pro 50' - a super sized protein shake that can be spilt into two throughout the day or consumed immediately after an endurance session (or in my case, consumed at the gym in between an Insanity class followed by Body Pump!)

Beauty Buzz Guest Post: Hairy Jayne's Illustrated Guide to Frizzy Hair

Image credit: Hair Jayne Handmade Hair Care
What causes frizzy, pesky hairs to misbehave so?
Summer time can be a bad time of year for an attack of frizz, but then again winter can be equally as troublesome with all that central heating and rain. Why does it happen? How can you get back some control?

The two main causes of frizz are both to do with moisture:
  1. Humidity – the amount of water vapour in the air - and that dreadful drizzle we often get.
  2. Hair dryness – a lack of moisture inside the actual hair strands due to sun damage, too much styling, too much colouring or just plain old naturally dry hair. (This is why the dreaded white ones stick out all over the place so much. White hair gets drier when it loses it’s pigment, making it more prone to frizz).

Co-Yo: Vegan Friendly Coconut Milk Yoghurt

CoYo: Coconut Milk Yoghurt
Coconut products are receiving increased attention in the nutrition and fitness world just lately. One of the many reasons for using coconut as an alternative to dairy is that Coconut is one of nature's richest sources of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs). MCFAs are smaller, easily digested and burned by the liver for energy - like carbohydrates, but without the insulin spike. MCFAs actually boost the metabolism and help your body use fat for energy, as opposed to storing it, so it can actually help you become leaner. Additionally MCFAs improve heart health, boost the thyroid and support the immune system.

SLiNK Magazine: Opening the glossy door to a debate on 'Plus Size', 'Real Size' and 'Does it matter what size?'

SLiNK Magazine - Issue 13
Magazines in the western world are filled with air-brushed images of models ranging from sizes 0-6 and stuffed with articles about bikini bodies, juice diets and celebrity celluliteConcerns are growing over the impact this has on women's body image and self esteem especially when in reality,  4.9 million women in the UK wear a size 18+ and the plus size clothing market has grown by 47% since 2006.

Clearly, magazines do not reflect the average woman. Women wearing sizes 10-12, like myself, are classed as 'plus size' by the fashion industry standard, regardless of whether a woman is a healthy weight, in good health, has a balanced diet and a pretty decent level of fitness.
